Britannia Panopticon is the oldest surviving music hall in the world (that we know of) and is famous for being where Stan Laurel made his stage debut in 1906 with the following joke:

I say I say I say, did you here the one about the butterfly. One butterfly said to t'other butterfly, "Eh, I am bothered, I am bothered."

"Why's that?" said the other butterfly.

"Because I couldn't go to the dance last week."

"Why ever not?" asked the other butterfly.

"Because it was a moth ball."

Some people say that Wilton's in London is the oldest surviving. Not quite true. They both got licensed on the same day, December 25th 1859, however, Wilton's burnt down in 1877 leaving only the barley twist columns. Britannia Panopticon never burnt down. It was too saturated with pee to ignite.
